Home from Chicago. Can I go back now?
Feb. 21st, 2010 06:51 pmBack home from Chicago, where I had a marvelous time. Friday we got to the hotel, which was fantastic and old-fashioned and homey (Inn at Lincoln Park on Diversey) and well situated for walking about for food, book shopping, etc.
We ordered deep dish from Gino's East on Friday night, then went out exploring a bit. Saturday we got up, went to breakfast at The Golden Nugget (a nifty 24-hour diner on N Clark) and then headed off to the Lincoln Park Zoo. It's free and very cool. I enjoyed the reptile and small mammals building as well as the apes. I love me some apes.
The big cats were AWESOME. The lion kept roaring, and they were all indoors for limited viewing because of the weather, and so it just filled the huge stone building and made me shake in my boots. I was terribly excited about it. In fact, I was terribly excited about the whole zoo, to the point where I accidentally whapped Jo on the head when I was squeeing about a tiny, furred creature. Maybe it was the loris. I don't recall.
After the zoo, we went back to the hotel and crashed for a bit. Jo went off with his EVE guys in a snazzy stretch limo and had a great night out. I went out with
moiracoon to walk around in downtown Chicago after dark. It's gorgeous! I really enjoyed her company, as always, and we had great Thai in a little place somewhere downtown for almost no money. Gotta go back there.
I also got to shop a bit at Lush and at the Ghirardelli store. Woo!
Today was mostly a day for traveling. I really, really love traveling on trains. No driving, no stress, just reading and cat napping and looking at the scenery. I'm in favor. Jo is a fantastic travel companion. He enjoys just getting out and exploring and he's more or less unruffled by hustle/bustle and we make a good team. Unless I get us on the right bus going the wrong direction. *laughs* He decided to go by train and he chose the hotel, and both choices were major winners.
I can't wait to get back to Chicago. There's still so much to do and see. I think next time will be a little longer trip, too.
